Fundraising

We strive to make The Tri-Adventure a rewarding and challenging experience on many levels. While the physical challenge is important, the larger purpose is to ease the brutality of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Africa.

We are confident all Tri-Adventures will exceed the minimum pledge level of $1,000. In 2006, one highly motivated person raised over $15,000! Many people will be able to raise between two and three thousand dollars, making our goal of raising $100,000 with 40 participants a reality!

The Tri-Adventure provides fundraising resources as well as instructions for handling and collecting donations. We also track pledges and report back to each participant as pledges are received.

Handling and Collecting Donations

The Tri-Adventure is an event that benefits the Stephen Lewis Foundation (SLF). Shown below are the SLF's instructions for handling donations for events that they do not organize themselves.

Donors can make a pledge by cheque, VISA, MasterCard or cash. Credit Card and cheque are the preferred methods of payment.

Procedures for handling and collecting donor information and pledges are:

  1. All donors must complete a Tri-Adventure Pledge Form (see the table above). The name and address on the pledge form must be the individual to whom the tax receipt, issued by the SLF, is mailed. A letter of thanks is also included with the tax receipt from the SLF.
  2. Cheques are made payable to the "Stephen Lewis Foundation." Tri-Adventure should be written in the memo line of the cheque along with The Tri-Adventurer's first and last name.
  3. Do not send cash in the mail. If donors pay by cash, The Tri-Adventurer should write a personal cheque to cover the cash total. Send the cheque and the pledge form(s) together.
  4. Once donations and pledge forms are collected, mail them to the address on our Contact Us page.

The Stephen Lewis Foundation will issue tax receipts for donations of $10 or more. If you do not need a tax receipt, please let us know on the pledge form. This helps reduce administrative costs for the SLF and ensures the maximum amount of funds reach Africa.

Pledge Tracking

The Tri-Adventure tracks all incoming pledges to ensure each participant meets the minimum fundraising amount. Pledges can be made online, or sent directly to The Tri-Adventure. Once pledges are recorded, funds are forwarded along with donor information to the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Tax receipts are sent directly to donors from the Stephen Lewis Foundation.

If donors have questions about the event, their donation, their tax receipt etc., please have them contact The Tri-Adventure directly.

While the Stephen Lewis Foundation is the grateful beneficiary of the funds raised through The Tri-Adventure, they are unable to answer questions about the event or about tax receipts until all funds are sent in to them.
