Training
The TriAdventure helps participants train for the event by providing a training guide, informational and social meetings and organized group training sessions.
We also encourage everyone to find training partners among other participants to buoy your spirits and motivation as you train regularly outside the group training sessions. Invitations and attendance at training sessions are managed via the online invitation service Evite. This approach allows participants to accept or decline invitations to a training session, see who else is attending and also see comments or questions posted in response to the invitation.
Finally, if you need help finding a training partner or have questions or issues concerning the training schedule and/or guide please email us.
Fundraising
We strive to make the TriAdventure a rewarding and challenging experience on many levels. While the physical challenge is important, the larger purpose is to ease the brutality of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Africa.
We are confident all TriAdventures will exceed the minimum pledge level of $1,000. In 2006, one highly motivated person raised over $15,000! Many people will be able to raise between two and three thousand dollars, making our goal of raising $125,000 with 60 participants a reality!
The TriAdventure provides fundraising resources as well as instructions for handling and collecting donations (below). We also track pledges and report back to each participant as pledges are received.
Handling and Collecting Donations
The TriAdventure benefits Nikibasika and the Canada Africa Community Health Alliance (CACHA). Shown below are the instructions submitting donations:
1. All donors must complete a TriAdventure Pledge Form. The name and address on the pledge form will be the individual to whom the tax receipt is issued by CACHA.
2. Cheques are made payable to the "TriAdventure". It's a good idea to write the athletes name in the memo line.
3. Do not send cash in the mail. If donors pay by cash, the TriAdventurer should write a personal cheque to cover the cash total. Send the cheque and the pledge form(s) together.
4. Once donations and pledge forms are collected, mail them to the address on our contact page.
CACHA will issue tax receipts for donations of $20 or more. If you do not need a tax receipt, please let us know on the pledge form. This helps reduce administrative costs.
Pledge Tracking
The TriAdventure tracks all incoming pledges to ensure each participant meets the minimum fundraising amount of $1,000.
If your donors have questions about the event, their donation, their tax receipt etc., please have them contact the TriAdventure directly.
TriAdventure Day by Day

Day 1 - Swim
On the morning of Day 1, we meet at a downtown Toronto location and head north on a private bus to Camp Wahanowin on the shore of Lake Couchiching (east of Orillia, just north of Casino Rama). The bus leaves downtown Toronto before noon, and a light lunch is served. We arrive at Camp Wahanowin at around noon.
The swim takes place in the afternoon or evening, depending on weather and lake conditions. A course is laid out parallel to the shore, starting at the Camp Wahanowin dock. The swim involves four legs: you swim 750 metres to a buoy, then back to the starting point, then repeat. Throughout the TriAdventure, safety is paramount, and rest points are available along the course. Completing the three kilometres should take under two hours.
For those who have opted to do the 15 km run instead of the swim, it will happen immediately after the swim. The course is a 5 km loop that takes you through a forested trail, the grounds of Camp Wahanowin and the neighbouring YMCA.
After we have eaten dinner in the Camp Wahanowin mess hall, there are casual social activities. Accommodation is in the Camp's cabins.

Day 2 - Canoe
After an early breakfast, we meet on the Camp beach and select partners for the canoeing event. After a refresher safety course, we jump into canoes, head south on Lake Couchiching and meet at 'The Narrows' for the final leg on Lake Simcoe. The entire route is approximately 15 kilometres, landing at McRae Point Provincial Park.
After lunch, we cycle a short 23 kilometres to the evening campground at Point of Mara Park. Some participants bring their own tents, others share. The swimming is excellent, and special evening activities follow a wonderful meal.

Day 3 - Cycle
After breakfast, we continue to cycle down the east side of Lake Simcoe and over the rolling hills to Toronto (approximately 120 more kilometres). This takes five to seven hours, depending on your speed. There are designated break points along the way, including a lunch break.
Our support trucks arrive at our final meeting point and unload each participants personal belongings, and we ask you to make arrangements to help take your things home with you.
We arrive in Toronto in the late afternoon and welcome you to invite friends and family to celebrate in our extraordinary achievement. Drinks and refreshments are served!
